Real Progress for Real People

Branch Staff Profiles

Sharon, Area Manager

‘I was working for a business that was acquired by Swinton, and stayed because of the prospect of the many exciting new challenges this would bring. I noticed the change in pace almost immediately, and enjoyed being in an environment that was a lot more target driven.

It’s down to me to make sure the ten branches in my area achieve their performance goals and deliver results. Mainly, it’s about giving branch managers the support, guidance and development opportunities they need, and getting them to work together to ensure the area’s success. And there’s a great deal of job satisfaction to be had from seeing them do well — I feel like I’ve made a real difference.

Of course, I couldn’t do it alone, which is why teamwork is an important part of everyone’s role. Ours is a genuinely supportive environment too, with learning and development tailored to individual needs. So, for anyone considering a career with our busy branch network, I’d just say — go for it!’

Rico, Senior Sales Executive

‘Although I’d experience of the insurance industry before coming to Swinton, it was from a call centre perspective, and I really wanted to work with customers face-to-face.

I’ve been here nearly two years and, having worked my way up to a more senior position, I’m now helping new staff at the branch achieve their targets. Of course, there’s still a lot of customer contact too, and I still get a great deal of satisfaction from resolving any issues they may have.

For someone with lots of enthusiasm and the ability to pick things up quickly, it’s an ideal role. And, while my insurance experience has proved useful, it’s not something you have to have. Customer service skills are much more important.

When it comes to progressing my career, I’ve a development plan in place with realistic targets, plus I’m learning a lot from shadowing my Branch Manager. As for support, everyone wants you to get on, including the Area and Regional Managers.

If you’re unsure whether the insurance industry is for you, I’d say give it a try. You’ll never know how much you’ve got to gain if you don’t. I’ve had a great experience, working with some great people.’
